Charles H Quackenbush, of Stamford, Conn., recently re-cently discharged from the railway mall service by the postmaster-general, and later dropped from the Railway Rail-way Mall Clerks association, was 'declared 'de-clared elected tonight 3 president of the New England division of the Railway Rail-way Mail Clerks' -association by a strong mall vote which has been cast In the last few days Quackenbush defeated President Alvah C. Walton, of floston, who sought re-election, but when the formor attempted to take tho chair, Walton resisted. Earllor in the day, QuacHenbush had secured an Injunction against Walton to prevent his Interfering with the election, but Walton Insisted that he was acting on authority from the national body In refusing re-fusing to give up his office. After an hours' noisy debate. Walton yielded. Tho meeting voted to pay Quackenbush Quacken-bush an amount equal to his regular salary while he is out of a position, and $GS was raised on the spot for him. An assessment of one dollar per momber also was voted to pay the salary of any member of the New England En-gland division who might lose his position po-sition through siding with Quackenbush Quacken-bush In tho controversy. |
