Show oo CQRNERSTGNEFQR AFRICMGHURGH Attended by ceremonies in which a number of representatho people of the city participated, the cornersione of the new African Methodist Episcopal Episco-pal church at Plngree avenue and Twenty-eighth street was laid last evening. The ceremony was witnessed witness-ed by a large number ot people. The African church association owns a lot 150 by 40 feet near tho corner and tho erection of tho building has progressed to tho extent of a conciete foundation, aud timbering for the grouud floor. Tho lot and building so lar as it has progressed have been paid for and It is behoved that sufficient suffi-cient money will be raised to complete the building before winter. The services last evening were held Iu the opon air and following a song by tho congregation Prof. J. A. The stone, containing con-taining a bible, hymn book, subscription subscrip-tion paper showing the donations to date, a copy of the Evening Standard ujid several other articles, was theu set in place by several members of tho congregation, Rev. Flsber completing complet-ing the reading of tho ritual. Mayor Glasmann was tho next to address the meeting. He congratulated congratulat-ed tho colored people on their determination deter-mination to erect a building for religious re-ligious services and extended to them the best wishes of tho people of Ogden. Og-den. An official of the Mormon church and several prominent members of the colored congregation albo made a few remarks. After a short talk by Rev Fisher a free-will offering was taken, tho new cornerstone being used as n re-coptaclo re-coptaclo for tho money. The money thus raised will be appljod to the building fund. After the benediction the members of the colored congregation congre-gation adjourned to the mission hall, where a thanksgiving sorvico' was bold. |
