Show oo BETTER BUILDINGS IN MANILA. A comparative statement of the valuo of building operations In the city of Manila by months since July, 1909, just prepared by tho building inspection in-spection division of the city engineer's engi-neer's office, contains some remarkable remark-able figures on the growth in values Increase values of buildings in the since that time. A careful examination of the tables In the statement shows that Manila is getting out of the shack habit, as the values of light material constructions are in no wise keeping pace with the increase of values of building In tho strqnc: material class. While the number of new strong material buildings erected during the fiscal year 1910 is greater than tho number in 1911, the values for 1911 show an Increase of SS0,1T0 pesos ($440,205), and repairs show a decrease de-crease In value of R0.936 pesos. During Dur-ing the fiscil year 1910, 511 light and mixed material buildings were erectcJ at a cost of ?9,545 pesos, while In 1911 595 were built nt a valuo of 109,980 pesos, or an Increase ot but 20,435 pesos. Tho most remarkable falling off In values Is that of repairs on light material ma-terial buildings, which may be taken as a good omen of a hotter Manila. The fiscal vear 1910 shows a total of 4,127 buildings repaired, and only 2.70G in 1911. at a difference In value of 44.7S0 pesos In favor of 1910. Going back to the year 1909 the statement shows a total of 379 bulld-Inra bulld-Inra of strontr material of a total value val-ue of onlv 93G.478 pesos, while 1911 exceeds this total by over 1.500,000 pesos, a rate of Increase which, if kept up, will run Into the millions In a few years.
