Show Project AHEAD provides educational aid s Earning a college degree while holding down a full-time job has never been easy. It has been especially difficult for people in the military services because they rarely stay in one place long enough to complete the requirements for a degree. Now the Army says it has developed a way to change that: Project AHEAD. Project AHEAD (Army Help for Education And Development) is a cooperative education concept that allows high school graduates to start college and enlist in the Army at the same time. A student must meet the normal admission standards of the college he or she selects from the more than 1300 schools participating in Project AHEAD. Once he has applied to the school, he enlists in the Army, completes his training and is assisgned to an Army post. Then, provided he has been accepted by his home school, he is ready to begin earning credits under Project AHEAD. When he arrives at his new post, an Army educational counselor will explain the educational programs being offered both on and off post by colleges and universities in the local area. The advisor at his home school will tell the student which courses will be accepted toward his degree and will keep a record of the credits he earns. Regardless of where he is stationed, the student will stay in touch with an advisor at his home school. For most courses, the Army will pay up to 75 percent of the tuition cost. Additional information in-formation about Project AHEAD, and other Army ' educational opportunities, is available from any local Army representative. |
