Show Public Hearing slated on Alunite Plant A public hearing to discuss the draft environmental statement concerning a proposed alunite processing plant in Beaver County will be held at the Milford High School Auditorium, Milford, November 30, at 7:30 p.m. The Bureau of Land Management prepared the interagency in-teragency report with assistance from the Geological Survey and the Bureau of Mines. Public comment concerning the statement now is encouraged, according to Morgan S. Jensen, BLM Cedar City District manager. The proposal would involve construction of an alunite processing plant, open-pit mine, water system and transportation system. The project would employ approximately 1,000 workers in the Beaver County area of Utah. The plant complex would produce annually about 500,000 tons of alumina, 370,000 tons of potassium sulphate fertilizer, 1.7 million tons of phosphate fertilizer and 20,000 tons of aluminum fluride. Written comments on the environmental statement will be accepted until December 6, 1976, and are being solicited from public agencies and interested citizens. These comments should be addressed to the BLM Cedar City District Manager, P.O. Box 729, 1579 North Main Street, Cedar City, Utah 84720. Copies of the report are available for public review at the . BLM Cedar City District Office, 1579 North Main Street, Cedar City, the County Recorder's Office, Iron County Courthouse, Parowan, and Cedar City Office, City and County Building, Cedar City. An administrative law judge will preside over the Milford hearings. Witnesses presenting oral comments should limit their testimony to 10 minutes. Copies of complete oral statements or other written comments will also be accepted at the hearings and made part of the official alunite record. A court reporter will take a record of the testimony and then prepare a verbatim transcript tran-script of the proceedings. Written requests to testify orally should be submitted to the BLM Cedar City District Manager proor to close of business November 26. 1976. All viewpoints expressed at the public hearings and submitted in writing will be considered in preparation of the final environmental en-vironmental statement. |
