Show Youth enjoy Recreation Program Fifteen hundred youth high school age and younger are involved in-volved in the Cedar City summer recreation program, according to Wayne Mifflin, Community-School Community-School Recreation Director. "That's ' probably underestimating un-derestimating rather than overestimating," stated Mifflin, who added that an exact count is difficult because many kids are involved in two or more of the programs offered. Baseball alone accounts for at least 550 boys, according to Mifflin, on 34 teams in four leagues. Swimming is another popular summer activity, with around 400 youth taking swimming classes, including a life-saving course. Mifflin added that other courses being held this summer include reading, art, band, fishing and hiking, lifetime sports, tap dance, ballet, gymnastics gym-nastics and tumbling, to name a few. After baseball programs end by the first of August, Mifflin hopes that a planned bicycle motocross area will be ready for use. In addition to the programs for the youth, men's and women's softball leagues are in action this summer. |
