Show t Ron's grab lead in National LL play This is the final week of play in the Cedar City National Little League and Ron's Sporting Goods has come from behind to take the league lead going into the final action, Ron's scored an 8-7 win over Town & Country Friday night to break a tie for the league lead and take over first place in the standings. The loss threw T & C into a tie for second place with Lions. With just five games remaining the standings Tuesday were as follows: Ron's Sptg. Goods 8 4 Town & Country .....8 5 Lions 8 6 Jaycees 6 7 Elks 4 8 Arctic Circle 3 9 In the battle Friday for the league lead Ron's took advantage ad-vantage of a number of walks to garner the victory. T & C outhit Ron's by 8-4. Both clubs pushed in one run in the first inning and the score , remained knotted until the ' bottom of the third when Ron's forged ahead 2-1, In the top of the fourth T & C came back to regain the lead with three runs, 4-2, but in the bottom of the frame Ron's scored five runs on two hits to take a 7-4 advantage. In the top of the fifth T & C pushed in three runs to tie the score and the winning run came across in the fifth with the bases loaded walk. It was called at that point owing to darkness. On the mound for the win was David Bauer. For T & C they sent Bruce Amador, Mark Rollo and Lonnie Stout to the plate. For T & C they had four extra base hits, all doubles, by Amador, St Stout, Brandon, Petty and McKay Christensen. Only extra base hit for Ron's was a triple by Lyle Harrison. In other action of the week Jaycees took an early lead then held on to garner an 11-10 victory over Arctic Circle. Jaycees pushed in eight runs on five hits in the second inning to take a 9-1 lead and they added two in the third for an 11-1 advantage. Arctic came flying back with five runs in the fourth and four in the fifth to give Jaycees a real scare. Chuck Embley and Cary Edwards Ed-wards were on the mound for Jaycees. Arctic Circle sent Dave Christensen, John Davis and Craig Soderquist to the mound. Jaycees had a double by Steve Esplin and Arctic's only extra base hit was a triple by Eric Stankowski. Ron's started the week with a 13-2 win over Jaycees. Morgan Evans hurled the win. Chuck Embley and Shaun Perkins were on the mound for Jaycees. Extra base hits by Ron's included two doubles by David Bauer and one each by Morgan Evans and Lyle Harrison. Gary Edwards doubled for Jaycees. Lions stayed in a tie for second place with a 13-4 win over Elks behind the four hit pitching of Robbie Stevens. Of those two were for extra bases - doubles by Lane Stobbe and Kevin Garrett. Lions got off and running in the first inning with five runs on one hit and five walks and were never headed. |
