Show n 1 ; i . - TAKE OVER BUSINESS. Auto West, Inc., owned and operated by Boyd Edwards, left, and Richard Baggs, began operation July l. They succeed Jones Motor Company, a long-time established auto agency in Cedar City. Jones Motor becomes Auto West, Inc. through sale to Baggs and Edwards Willard Jones, manager of Jones Motor Company, announced an-nounced the sale of the Cedar City Volkswagen dealership to Richard Baggs and Boyd Edwards Ed-wards last week. Auto West, Inc. is the new name for the business, according to Baggs and Edwards, who indicated plans to "build on the foundation" of the former operation and "increase the capacity for service." Jones Motor Company was founded in 1931 by Marvin Jones, Willard's father, and has been operated by the family for 45 years. From 1932 until 1963, the company was a DeSoto and Plymouth dealer. After Chrysler Corp. discontinued the DeSoto line, Jones Motor acquired the Volkswagen dealership. Jones expressed thanks to the many customers and loyal employees of Jones Motor over 1 the past years. The new owners have several years of experience in the automotive field. Richard Baggs was raised in Ogden, where he graduated from Ogden High and attended Weber State College. He worked as a mechanic for seven years, starting in 1959, and then became a new car salesman and the used car sales manager for an Ogden dealership. He moved to Cedar City eight years ago and became the sales manager for Tri-State Motors. "tie and his wife, Kathleen, have fourv children. He serves as an LDS Sunday School President in the Cedar First Ward. Boyd' .Edwards, born and educated in Cedar City, spent three years in the Navy during World War II. He then attended BAC (now SUSC) for three years and graduated from" Utah State University in 1950. During the Korean War he entered the Air Force, where he served until 1972, when he retired as a Lt. Col. Since his retirement from the military, Edwards moved back to Cedar City with his wife, Margaret, and a son. He has been employed by Tri-State Motors as a salesman. Auto West will continue Volkswagen sales and service, and will employ the same staff as Jones Motor did. "We'd like the friends of Jones Motor to be friends of Auto West," stated Edwards. |
