Show Parowan celebrates 4th with Parade, Games PAROWAN Parowan residents and the many visitors in town enjoyed watching a very successful parade July 5th, with floats from businesses and church and civic groups participating par-ticipating and also riding and marching groups and dozens of small children riding brightly decorated bicycles. Parowan 3rd Ward was the winner in the religious division with a float titled America The Lord's Promised Land, with children in Bicentennial costumes riding on it. The float was decorated by the third ward primary. Parowan 1st Ward entered two floats in the parade and the two tied for 2nd place in their division. First Ward Floats were done under the direction of the primary and APYW Activity Night groups. Parowan 2nd Ward placed 3rd. In the commercial division the Parowan Merc took First place with a float adorned with a giant birthday cake with 200 candles shining on top. 2nd place went to Bank of Iron County and 3rd place to the Legion Auxilliary. Parowan third ward was the winner in an exciting "Almost anything goes" contest between the three Parowan Wards. Under the direction of the Fire Department the competition included balloon busting in a tub of water and a basketball throw at a moving bike target. Paul Revere rides. The crowd was in stitches and contestants had a good "wet" time going down slides and into pools and a beautiful trophy w; as awarded to the Third Ward. The contest will be held again next year and the trophy passed on to the next winner. Parowan Third Ward's coach was B ishop Boyd Mitchell, First Ward was coached by Dave Jenson and 2nd Ward by Frank Davis. |
