Show T-Birds split Road Games Things were somewhat in a reverse sequence this past weekend for the Southern Utah State College Thunderbirds Thun-derbirds as they won and lost in contests on the road. Friday night at Durango, Colo, the T-Birds suffered a setback at the hands of the Ft. Lewis Raiders, 107 to 102, in a game forced into double overtime. Saturday night Coach Stan Jack and his T-Birds were at Alamosa, Colo, to tangle with ' the Adams State Indians In-dians in what was expected to be the tougher game of the two. In this one the T-Birds captured a 89-82 victory to salvage a split on the rugged road trip. Ft. Lewis broke away from a 8-8 deadlock with exceptional shooting and courtsmanship in what looked like a route of the T-Birds T-Birds early in the first half. ; As a matter of fact the Raiders were out in front by as much as 21 points in the first half as the T-Birds gave up "batches" of scores on turnovers and missed shots. The second half was a complete turnaround for the T-Birds as they scrambled back into the game and finally caught and overtook the Raiders near the end of . The two clubs were knotted at 90 all at the end of regulation play. The first overtime the Raiders again took an early lead, but SUSC fought back to tie the score again forcing the second overtime. In the final overtime the Raiders hit the first bucket and never trailed in picking up the victory. Butch Douglas had one of his finest nights of the season in the losing effort as he hit for 26 points and was the leading rebounder for the T-Birds. Chava Lopez also hit for 26 points, including some crucial foul shots in the late stages of the regular period and in the first overtime. Others in double figures were Scott Brown with 16, Ron Harrell with 13 and Marc Wilson with 12. Against the Indians Saturday night the T-Birds shook off the loss to the Raiders and broke away from a close battle in the early stages to win going away. Douglas was in foul trouble early sitting out nearly 15 minutes of the first half, but balanced scoring, led by Lopez with 20, proved to be too much for the Indians. In-dians. Wilson worked well in the middle picking up 19 points with Harrell adding 17 and Brown 14. Top scorers in the contest were Prolow and Woodruff of the Indians with 27 and 26, respectively. They were the only players from Adams State in double figures.
