Show Thunderbird baseball 9 tackles Weber in first home series Sat. Southern Utah State dia-monders dia-monders open the home baseball base-ball season this Saturday, as they take on the Wildcats of Weber State at noon on the T-Bird field. " In five games this past week, the 'Birds went 2-3 against Colorado Mines and Grand Canyon College, The wins came against Mines 13-6 and in the first game against the Antelopes 6-3. . The Wildcats have a good record going into the game Saturday but other than that the Thunderbirds do not know much about them. Two of their pitchers went the- way of graduation, last year but the record is comparable so Coach Cleo Petty is looking for a tough team. Craig Lloyd is credited for the win against Mines and John Anderson gets one a-gainst a-gainst the Antelopes. Other scores against Grand Canyon are: Grand Canyon 9, SUSC 8; Grand Canyon 4, SUSC 2; and Grand Canyon 3, SUSC 0. Top power hitters for the T-Birds for the trip were Hack Mitchell and Chuck Bowden with a home run apiece and Craig Lloyd with a triple. "I was pleased with our pitching and general overall performance. In the second game against Grand we gave up five runs on errors in the first inning and that's just too much to make up," Coach Petty stated. "We could have won maybe two of the close games except ex-cept for the errors we made. Our hitting dropped off in the last game also." Probable starters for this Saturday are: Craig Lloyd, pitcher, Val Cullimore, catcher, catch-er, Mike Orgin, first base, Russ Chester, second base, Jon Hoover, third base, Ivan Otero, short stop, and Hack Mitchell, Russ Peterson, ana Chuck Bowden in the outfield. |
