Show Bantam crew vins State Honors team included Lindy Davis, teve Hair, Scott Burns S Rickv Rollo, Mike Harvey j and Brad Blackner. The Cedar City Bantam Basketball team captured consolation con-solation honors in the State Beehive division in competition competi-tion held this past week in Salt Lake City. Steven's Company who won the local tournament here, as reported below, went on to participate in the state contest con-test Friday and Saturday. Steren's lost their opening Dund game, but came back to win consolation honors with as to 36 win over Smithfield. The Beehive crown was won by Friels, Inc. of Lehi with a 37-36 victory over Springville. An account of the Cedar City playoffs and southern Utah tournament staged in Cedar City follows: The Bantam Basketball local tournament ended last Thursday Thurs-day with Steven's Company defeating Arctic Circle in over-time by a score of 36-32. Both Steven's Company and Arctic Circle had entered the tournament as the third and fourth place teams, respectively, respect-ively, from the Gold League of the Cedar City Bantam Basketball Bask-etball program- sponsored by the local National Guard unit. As a result of . - the local tournament both te'ams entered enter-ed a Region tournament held tie gap and sent the game into over-time. Arctic kept pushing and came out on top with a' -53-46 victory. Ricky Roilo led the Arctic team in the game with 23 points in the contest So, "the championship game pitted the two Cedar City teams together in the championship champ-ionship contest. The game was played Wednesday evening even-ing at the Cedar High School gymnasium and the results of the game were not known at the time of publication. Winner of the game advances advanc-es to further tournament play in Salt Lake City meeting Richfield, the winner of Region Reg-ion 4-5. on March 17. Winner of that game will play again on the 18th for the State championship of the Beehive Division of Bantam Basketball program. In connection with the local tournament a six man all-tourney all-tourney team was selected and a most valuable player chosen. Lee Holmes was chosen chos-en as the most valuable player play-er of the tournament, leading his team to the tournament championship. The all-tourney in Cedar City Saturday, March 18. Steven's Company who entered en-tered the tournament as Cedar City's, first place team played a team from St. George in one of the opening games of the tournament. Steven's defeated the Dixie team 57-39 with Lee Holmes scoring 29 points for the Cedar team. Arctic D'rcle, meanwhile, took on Beaver in their opening open-ing battle and picked up the victorv by a slim margin, 23-19. 23-19. ----- Due to Steven's Company's first place seeding, their win over St. George placed them in the championship game with a bye in the second round of play. Arctic Circle with their win had to go on to play a team from Fillmore. Arctic Circle trailed almost the entire game by as far as 12 points, but in the closing- minutes closed |
