In my opinion, that is why it has failed," charged Strike. "The answer is to use our successful business people and citizens. Instead of directing an advertising campaign, our state officials should use their time and funds to help coordinate coord-inate the efforts of people in the private sector to get the jab done. Take politics out of it. Make it a people-to-pecple effort, and we will see some dramatic results," said Strike. Other candidates for state officers were also in attendance attend-ance at the convention and spoke briefly to the delegates. Delegates were also named at the convention to represent Iron County at the State Convention, Con-vention, according to Edwin C. Cox, Iron County Republican Chairman. "What Utah needs is a dedicated, dedi-cated, skilled manager, not a popular politician at its helm if we are to solve the sticky problems w hich continue with us," advocated Nicholas L. Strike, Republican candidate candi-date for governor of Utah at the Iron County Republican Convention held Friday evening even-ing in Cedar City. At the convention D Robinson Robin-son and Glen Halterman, both of Parowan were elected in a three man race to vie for the two-year Iron County Commission post in the primary pri-mary election to be held in August. A third candidate, was defeated de-feated in his bid to represent the party. Only other county-wide contest con-test is that for the four-year commission post for which encumbent Ivan Matheson is the only Republican candidate who has filed. Strike, the keynote speaker at the convention told delegates delegat-es that "some of the greatest problems we face In Utah today to-day are sympotomatic of political poli-tical decision making. For instance, in-stance, look at our failure to solve the unemployment problem. pro-blem. We have unemployment unemploy-ment in Utah, which, for the past eight years has remained remain-ed consistently worse than the national average," he pointed out. 'There has been an effort made to create new Jobs, but |
