Show Thunderbirds to face Westminster in first conference baseball game First jump into Rocky Mountain Moun-tain Athletic Conference (RMAC) competition for College Col-lege of Southern Utah Thunderbirds Thun-derbirds will take place Friday afternoon when they meet Westminster Parsons in Salt Lake City. According to baseball coach Cloo Petty, the conference has been divided into four areas and the four area winners will compete in a conference championship tournament to be held at Pueblo, Colo., May 1, 2 and 3. Only three schools are represented re-presented In the southern area of the Mountain Division of the conference. They include CSU, Westminster, and New Mexico Western at Silver City, N. M. Under a pre-arranged agree, ment, CSU and Westminster will meet on a home and home basis in a four-game series. The team with the best record in that series will then meet New Mexico Western West-ern in a three-game series to determine the area winner. That playoff is slated to be held on a neutral field. The area winner will then advance into the three-day conference tournament in May. With that in mind, the T-Birds T-Birds will be all-out to post victories in thoir double-header against the Parsons Friday afternoon. Coach Petty has Indicated that Larry Eyre will probably get the starting nod in the opener, and it is likely that Roy Ferguson will start in the second clash. Standing by in relief will be Fred Espiin, Don Kirk, Ron Holmes and Jack Mitchell. Mitchell has been suffering from a sore arm, and Coach Petty hopes that he will be ready for the series. The two squads will clash in another double-header in Cedar City Saturday, April 20. Saturday, the T-Birds move on to Ogden for another go at Weber State Wildcats. CSU and Weber spilt a double-header double-header in Cedar City this past week end. Petty and his crew will return re-turn to their home field next week where they will take on University of Nevada at Las Vegas Tuesday afternoon, Dixie College Thursday, and Westminster on Saturday. All dates are scheduled for double-headers. |
