Show City lets bid for power substation, names councilman at meetings At a special meeting of the Parowan City Council neld on April 7, bids were opened for construction oi a new and larger substation adjacent to the Parowan hydro-electric plant. The proposed new station sta-tion will replace the present one which is now too small to fill the needs of power used in the city.. The Mine and Smelter Supply Sup-ply Co. of Salt Lake City oi-lered oi-lered the low bid for the station sta-tion with a price of $13,96.5, and this bid was accepted. We , understand that this is for transformers, etc, with the installation in-stallation to be done by city employees under supervision of company engineers. Money lor the equipment is now available, having been accumulated by the city over the years with this replacement replace-ment in mind. Mayor Ralph Orton states that the new station will be ready some-time some-time this fall if all goes well. At the regular meeting on Monday night, April 14, a new member was named to the council by the mayor with the approval of the group, to fill the vacancy resulting irom the recent death of Ray H. Adams. Wimmer Morten-sen, Morten-sen, local barber was given the position and will fill the unexpired team of Mr. Adams which runs to Dec. 31, 1971, we understand. Some changes were made in the committee appointments held by Mr. Adams. Mayor Orton named Council Ted Burton Bur-ton to head the waterworks committee. Mortensen will take over the other committee positions held by Mr. Adams. In other business, Mayor Orton states the Frank Decker Deck-er met with the council to discuss dis-cuss possibility of his Installing Install-ing a pick-up-camper and small trailer house overnight parking area at the rear of his laundomat. He was informed in-formed that this could be done if he complies with the requirements re-quirements that a water and sewer connection be provided for each unit. Worth Orton met with the prnun tr discuss morp im- provements at the municipal swimming pool and discuss agreements made with the people concerned with making a park of the entire area adjacent ad-jacent to the pool. He urged that the parking project be extended to the highway on the east and north as well as to the south. Orton speardead-ed speardead-ed the movement that provid ed the city with this facility. Woodrovv Decker, city manager man-ager met with the council to discuss problems which have arisen in the water and sewer sew-er department and also at the swimming pool. Councilman Richard T. Harris Har-ris reported on a meeting he had attended as the representative represen-tative of the city, with representatives repre-sentatives of the Parowan fields and the State Eigineer's office. The meeting concerned concern-ed the ajudication of the waters wa-ters flowing from the drainage drain-age areas in Parowan Mountains, Moun-tains, as it concerns the city and fields. Councilman Ted Burton recommended rec-ommended that the city pur- chase a much needed lawn mower from the General Implement Im-plement Co. in Salt Lake. This mower has a 42 inch cutting blade and will be used on the city park, and the Little League ball park and the new lawn at the swimming pool. Mayor Orton reported that he had again meet with the Iron County Commissioners concerning assistance for improvements im-provements at the airport and fair grounds. |
