In other action of the commission com-mission Iron County Sheriff Ira Schoppniann was given permission to attend a seminar sem-inar on arson to be held later this month in Salt Lake Cily and the appointment of Erwin C. Cox of Cedar City to a committee com-mittee of Western States Higher High-er Education for which a scholarship grant is being considered con-sidered for some student at CSU, was authorized. The scholarship, it js understood, would be given to a CSU student stu-dent for the summer months to study the industrial development devel-opment in the Kiv.Counly area of southern Utah. Permission was also grant ed to Ralph Piatt and Joan Wasden for the registering of various plat surveys In the Kanarraville area. The n-ew surveys would be supplement-al supplement-al to existing surveys, it was indicated. Iron County Commissioners also opened bids but took no action on the possible appoint-m.Mit appoint-m.Mit of an attorney to be hired hir-ed on a retainer basis to serve as council for indigent persons. per-sons. Consideration is being given the matter on a single county basis and also on a multi-county basis. Until a recent re-cent court decision court appointed ap-pointed attorneys were serving serv-ing without pay. The court up. held the contention that th.e counties are responsible to pay for these service-;. The matter is still under study by the commission. A number of delegations met with the Iron County Commissioners at their regular regu-lar meeting Monday at the Courthouse in Parowan. H. E. Christensen, director of the Iron County Civil Defense De-fense met with the commissioners commis-sioners advising them of a combined technical and advis-ory advis-ory committee that is being formulated in the county for the purpose of providing technical tech-nical advice in shelter planning. plan-ning. A delegation asked the com. mission for improvements in culverts in an ar.?a near the Monte Vista Acres where silt lias created a problem of water wat-er control. Commission agreed to meet with the group at the si!.? to study the problem and to determine responsibility. An agreement was asked by a group representing the Anglo-American Corporation, a subleas.ee of the Escalante Silver Sil-ver Corp., for the right to take drainage canals across county coun-ty highways in an area in tho west end of the county near mining operations. In other matters the commission agreed on a right-of-way agreement by applicant Alpine Bowler of Enterprise to string a power line along county roads in tho |
