Midnight shooting spree nets young man $75.00 fine plus costs of damages As a result of a shooting spree indulged in shortly after af-ter midnight last Friday morning, morn-ing, Paul Halterman, 24, was arrested the next day and taken before Justice of. the Peace, Wm . F. Burns and charged with "Malicious Mischief" Mis-chief" in a complaint issued by the arresting officers. Making Mak-ing the arrest were Hyatt Bentley, deputy sheriff, and Bruce Bunting, Parowan City marshal. Halterman has been residing resid-ing here for some time and has recently been employed at Brian Head Ski Resort. The complaint charged the young man will firing bullets from a 22 pistol into the trailer trail-er house occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Rodney Benson, parked on the lot west of the Chester Ches-ter Benson home; shooting out red, with the damages to be determined by those on who ' the damage was inflicted. Mr. Burns stated this came to $88.25, which was paid, as i was the fine and the jail sentence sen-tence was suspended on payment pay-ment of the above amounts, with the stipulation that he take the first transportation available back to his home in Southern California. He left on Saturday, officers say. In addition the Justice informed in-formed him that if he returned re-turned here and created any disturbance, that he will be liable for a 60 day term in the county jail.. It is intimated by the officers offi-cers handling the case that there had been friction between be-tween the defendant and the youths who seemed to be the object of his attack. the rear window of Rodney's car, and the glass out of a storm door at the Chester Benson Ben-son home, among other things. Following this, he is alleged alleg-ed to have gone to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Warren Alger where he shot into a garage door and shot tires on a pickup pick-up owned by Max Alger. He was arrested on Friday by the law officers on information inform-ation supplied to them by members of the families who were targets of the shooting. Taken before Justice Burns, Halterman entered a plea of guilty to the charge, listed as a misdemeanor, and was sentenced sen-tenced by Mr. Burns to pay a fine of $75.00 and given a 30-day 30-day jail sentence. He was also ordered by the court to pay the cost of damages dam-ages his shooting had incur- |
