Cravens, Head of the Department of Aerospace Students, General Cassiday expressed his pleasure plea-sure with progress made toy the new- department and with the efforts of the department staff memtoers. He also expressed expres-sed pleasure with the quality of the cadets whom he met. The commandant addressed a conclave of Arnold Air Society Soci-ety (honorary fraternity for AFROTC Cadets) members and Angel Flight (AFROTC Auxiliary Auxil-iary for girls) members from the Western States at Park City before returning to his headquarters at Maxwell AFB, Alabama. The scholarship recipient is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Bud D. Orton of Parowan and is a junior at SUSC ' majoring in Business. Upon completion of his studies at SUSC Cadet Orton Or-ton will be commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant . in the U. 'S. Air Force. . Orton and Craig Gordon will be the first 2nd Lieutenants to be commissioned through the Department of ' Aerospace Studies at SUSC. , Orton was recommended for the Scholarship toy Lt. Co. Cravens. In commenting on the award, Col. Cravens focused focus-ed on Ortoh's excellent scholarship schol-arship average during his first two years at the college and his demonstrated leadership qualities. Colonel Cravens predicted the award of the scholarship was but the first of many such scholarships that will be awarded through the Department. Depart-ment. These scholarships are awarded for periods up to four years and interested students from high school seniors on up are invited to visit the Department De-partment of Aerspace Studies at Thorley Hall, SUSC Campus, to receive more information on scholarship requirements. An inspection of the Department Depart-ment of Aerospace Studies at Southern Utah State College was made recently by Brigadier Briga-dier General Benjamine B. Cassiday, Jr., Commandant of the Air Force Reserve Officer's Training Corps. General Cassiday's visit was for the purpose of inspecting the new Department of Aerospace Aero-space Studies at the college. It is one of 180 similar departments de-partments on camp uses throughout the 50 states that form the Air Force Reserve Officer's Of-ficer's Training Corps commanded com-manded by the General. A highlight of the visitation was the presentation of an AFROTC Scholarship to Cadet Bradley Orton of the SUSC program. The scholarship was presented by General Cassir day and is the first of its kind to toe awarded to an SUSC SU-SC student. Scholarship includes tuition, laboratory fees, incidental fees a textbook allowance and in addition $100 per month subsistence sub-sistence allowance. General Cassiday met with President Royden C. Braithwaite Braith-waite of SUSC, vice president Conrad V. Hatch, A. W. Stephenson, Steph-enson, Dean of the College of Business, Technology and Aerospace, and Dr. Paul Petersen, Peter-sen, Military Coordinator for SUSC. The fitatis of the ROTC |
