Turek, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward F. Turek of Hatch. Colonel Turek is currently based at Clark Field in the Philippines. Citation read in part: "Major Turek distinguished distingu-ished himself by extraordinary achievement while participating participat-ing in aerial flight as a C-130B C-130B Pilot at Song Be, Republic Repub-lic of Vietnam, in January 19-70. 19-70. On that date, Turek was a new aircraft commander receiving re-ceiving his initial in country check. The aircraft he was piloting came under heavy rocket fire while off loading cargo. Disregarding his personal per-sonal safety he insured that all. prepapations for takeoff were completed while the flight crew finished the off load. He then completed a maximum performance down wind takeoff, extracting the aircraft and crew without damage or injury." The recipient is a nephew of John Turek of Cedar City. |
