Show Nev; Media Association organized On February 25th and 26th at the Hotel Utah a new state organization was born. Following Fol-lowing the two-day conference, the Utah Educational Media Association became a viul part of education with 210 members. Three men from southern Utah played Important parts in this first annual conference. Jerald Hawley, Director of the Southwest Educational Development Devel-opment Center, was chairman of the conference. David Church, Assistant Director of the Center, was one of the speakers in the first session of the conference and Fred Whic-kcr, Whic-kcr, Media Coordinator, Cedar High School, tpoke in the final session. The Utah Eucational Media Association is an organization for all professional educators in the tat who have responsibility respon-sibility for improving the teaching and learning experiences experi-ences of school children through the use of various forms of media. Media is de-lined de-lined in the broad sense as any technique, or method which will convey ideas, concepts, con-cepts, skills, and attitudes to the learner, or which may be tunned and cidpiaUJ VJ teachers in a manner calculated calcu-lated to increase the learning of children. There has long existed a need for an association of professionals pro-fessionals who are concerned with application of materials and Instructional technology to the learning process. The U. E. M. A. is an organization where those who have responsibility respon-sibility for the school program and the curriculum can join with other professionals in designing de-signing and fostering experiences experi-ences that will contribute to the goal of improving education educa-tion within the State of Utah, Therc were 250 participants attending the conference. Now off icers were elected to serve the organization, president is Dr. Don Smellie, Chairman of the Media Department at Utah State University, Logan. He takes over the leadership of the new organization from the Steering Committee that has been functioning under the direction of Jerald Hawley Jor |
