Cedar High School Redmen failed to place in the State Class AA basketball tournament tourna-ment staged this past week in Provo, but the Redmen were representative in both of their battles. Coach John Nielsen's Red-men Red-men tangled with Payson in the opening round of the tournament and although they lost by 10 points, the Cedar City crew stayed with the Tigers into the final period of play. Payson went on to play for the championship and finished second in the tournament tourna-ment of 16 teams. The first round loss threw the Redmen into the losers bracket and Thursday evening even-ing met Union High School. Union was tough in the middle mid-dle and the Redmen found themselves in foul trouble early. In this battle the lead see-sawed back and forth through most of the game but at the final gun Union had edged out a 66-65 victory, el-iminating el-iminating Cedar from further tournament competition.
