Show Parowan Tracksters Don't Do Too Well at Dixie Meet The showing made by the athletes from Parowan High School at the Dixie Invitational Invitation-al meet Saturday at St. George seems to bear out the fact that the local participants were not in good enough con-dition con-dition to compete with their opponents. Denied the use of the gym for the two weeks preceding the meet, and with a week of cold and stormy weather just before the meet is too great a handicap when we can look for very little good weather at this Ume of year at best. The boys who participated In the running events at the meet were only able to place in two events. Wayne Stubbs ran third in the 100 yard dash after compiling a very good time in the qualifying heat. Scott Guffey came through with fifth place in the 880 yard run, and these two places gave Coach. Caldwell's boys a total of 4 points in the meet. In the tennis matches, the Ram player? again did very well considering they don't nave any courts on wnicn 10 practice. With only four of the schools entering tennis competition, com-petition, Caldwell states his boys finished second behind the warm country boys from Dixie. Three Parowan men won matches but then fell to the Dixie players. Jerry Robinson, Del Hulet and Rick Trimmer won their initial matches in the No. one, two and three singles sin-gles before meeting Dixie in the finals and going down to defeat The Parowan High athletes will not participate in any meet this week end but Coach Caldwell states the the following fol-lowing Tuesday he hopes to stage a meet on the Parowan field with Hurricane or Enterprise Enter-prise or both participating. |
