Show P. H. S. Music Students Receive High Ratings at Solo and Ensemble Festival ! Vocal Solos: "Green Cathedral", Cathe-dral", Steve Kincaid; "Smilin' Thru", Paul Chamberlain; "A-sleep "A-sleep in the Deep", Ken Or-ton; Or-ton; "Now Suffer Me, Fair Maiden", Ricky Rowley; "Oh Mother, Sing Me to Rest", by Marilyn Orton. Piano Solos: "Scotch Poem", Gail Bentley; "Sequidilla", Christine Knight; "Coasting", Rhonda Mitchell, and "Minute "Min-ute Waltz", by Karrie Stubbs. Flute Duet: "Allegro", Bonnie Bon-nie Jenson and Lorraine Rowley. Row-ley. Also the String ensemble playing "Handel Suite", and a Brass Choir playing "Trumpet "Trum-pet Voluntary". Mr. Potter states that his department will now begin pointing for the Region Eight band and orchestra festival, which will be held in Cedar City early in May. On Wednesday, April 3 the Parowan High School Music Department under the direction direc-tion of Mr. Robert Potter, took 45 students to Millard High School in Fillmore for the Region Re-gion Eight Solo and Ensemble Ensem-ble Festival. Twenty-two musical numbers num-bers were entered, 20 of which received an Excellent rating or higher. Eight of the 20 received re-ceived Superior ratings, Mr. Potter reports. The numbers in the top rating were as follows: fol-lows: Vocal Trios: Bonnie Jensen, Chrystine Potter and Mary Ann Evans singing "Boats of Mine", and April Rollins, Marilyn Mar-ilyn Orton and Christine Worthen singing "My Hero". Vocal Solos: "Sorry Her Lot" from Pinafore, Bonnie Jensen ; "Habanera", from Carmen, sung in French, by Mary Ann Evans; "O Cessate Di Piagar-mi", Piagar-mi", sung in Italian, by Chrystine Chrys-tine Potter. Piano Solo: "Dance Negre", by Jolene Stubbs. Saxophone Duet: "Gypsy Love Song", by Carol Ann Adams and Ricky Rowley. Recorder Consort: "Recorder Suite", Bonnie Jensen, Lorraine Lor-raine Rowley, Peggy Lynch, Chrystine Potter.. Many students stu-dents from other schools had not seen or heard recorders before, be-fore, Mr. Potter States, and the consort, or quartet of recorders re-corders created quite a stir of interest. Recorders were very popular in Queen Elizabeth's time and are seldom heard today outside of Shakespearean Shakespear-ean Festivals Mr. Potter adds. Those getting Excellent ratings ra-tings were: |
