Show An Americanism Program Presented to V F W The March meeting of the VFW Auxiliary was held with the theme for the evening being, be-ing, "Americanism is a Way of Life, to be lived Each Day, Not Just as We Think of It." Americans traditionally think on one's self, one's family, fam-ily, one's business, and one's community - in that order. Only reluntantly do most Americans think of the state of the world, except to wish that others were more peaceful, peace-ful, and would slop doing things that cost us money, material, and lives. The members of the VFW were told that, "it is time we became aware of how every world event affects us as individuals," in-dividuals," by Mrs. Vona Houtz, Americanism chairman. chair-man. "Someone," she said, "must start doing a better job of selling the American way of life if we are to stop the erosion within our nation." Continuing on this thought, Mrs. Joyce Smith gave a talk on, "The Constitution and the Rights and Privileges that it Gives to Every American if II? Will but Live Up to It." It was reported by President Grace Leigh that the District had taken top honors in the High School Voice of Democracy Demo-cracy Contest sponsored by the VFW and Auxiliaries and that Ted Adams will represent Utah in the National Finals. Tlans on continuing monthly month-ly visits to tho Cedar Manor Home to take refreshments and cheer up residents were made and community service projects were agreed upon. |
