Show Cedar Students Participate In Quest Program Students at Cedar City High School are participating in an individualized, self directed course of study. Students follow fol-low a general course outline, designed by the teacher and used by the student as a guide to give direction to his work. Students are free to engage in quest programs or an area of depth research. Students are required to ful fill minimum areas in their outlines and to complete certain cer-tain areas according to a time schedule. Seminar, small group, large group discussions and presentations present-ations are used in conjunction with the individualized study periods. This approach, coupled with a modular schedule and an ungraded school, gives the student great opportunity to achieve and to accept responsibility respons-ibility for his development. This approach is being used in the American Problems and American History classes under un-der the instruction of Jim Miller Mil-ler and Kent Bishop. You have just lost the most important game of the year. Draw the feelings you have. You have just received a beautiful Christmas gift from someone you love. Draw your reaction. These are two of the experiences exper-iences the Cedar City High School advanced art students are having before Christmas. The class uses live models to help achieve the desired results. re-sults. Each student is encouraged encour-aged in his own style of drawing, draw-ing, but is asked to study current cur-rent trends in drawing and painting. For example, for one assignment the students are asked to select a painting or drawing used as an illustration illustra-tion in a current magazine and copy it as exactly as possible. This assignment is designed to help each student broaden his technical ability as well as improve im-prove his appreciation of good design. Other art classes are busy making Christmas gifts, decorating de-corating rooms, making displays, dis-plays, and learning the basics of drawing and painting. Some of the students are creating a stained glass window design on the art room sliding glass floors. The doors promise to be Christmas spirit at the high school, as well as providing a beautiful addition to the experience for the students in enlarging designs and working with transparent paper and liRht. Mr. Tolman, the art instructor, in-structor, invites everyone to visit the high school art room and share a bit of the Christmas Christ-mas spirit with the students. Who knows, you may even bo .i !;cd to model for a class. zr. . m SELF-DIRECTED PROGRAM.
