Show Legion Accepts Nine fit Boys' State Saturday, June 3, R. L. Gardner and L. C. Miles, representing re-presenting the Post No. 74 of the American Legion, will accompany ac-company Cedar City High School delegates to Boys' State to be held on the Utah State University Campus at Logan. Miles, commander of the post, will remain and assist in a leadership and counseling counsel-ing role during the conven- tion, returning with the group Sunday, June 11. D. C. Schmutz, first vice commander of the post, will aid on the return trip. Boys' State is a plan for training in the functional aspects as-pects of citizenship. It is a program of education sponsored sponsor-ed by the American Legion, Department of Utah. Its purpose pur-pose is to teach the youth of today constructive attitudes of government. The Cedar City Post deems it a privilege and honor to take the outstanding boys it is sending to USU, who include: in-clude: Mike Pratt, Dale Hatch, Raymond Gardner, Russell Dodge, Mike Gardner, Lloyd Kenney, Roice Nelson, Randy Shirts, and Charles Garfield, with Allan Warby and Kenneth Ken-neth Atkin as alternates. Commander Miles also extended ex-tended sincere thanks and appreciation ap-preciation to the sponsors of the boys including the Rotary Club, Lions Club, Elks Club, Lunt Motor Co., California-Pacific California-Pacific Utilities Co., Coca-Cola Bottling Co., R. L. Durant Auto Parts, and American Legion Post No. 74. At the Cedar City High School, arrangements for the program were coordinated through Dee Leavitt and Gail Miles. |
