Show Cedar City Elks Plan Flag Day Observance The Cedar City Elks Lodge has officially pointed out that Flag Day, June 11, is the 189th anniversary anni-versary of the United States Flag. It was on that date in 1777 that the continental Congress adopted a resolution authorizing the design de-sign of the Stars and Stripes as the national design. In response to a general demand de-mand for a banner representative of our country the Congress on June 1 1, 1777, provided "That the flag of the United States be 13 stripes of alternating red and white; and the the union of 13 stars, white on a blue field, representing re-presenting a new constellation." Our present flag has developed develop-ed from this resolution. Plans are underway to make this year's Flag Day observance a "demonstration for America", V. R. Magleby, Exalted Ruler of Cedar City Lodge 155G, announced. announc-ed. "All Americans with any sense want peace and that includes just about everybody in the country," coun-try," Exalted Ruler Magleby said, "just as they defend the democratic demo-cratic right to dissent, but lawlessness law-lessness is not dissent. We invite all patriotic people of our community to join in a great demonstration for America," Ameri-ca," Magleby said. "It is time that all who are opposed to the destructive violence that threatens threat-ens the safety and security of our Nation stand against such tactics by either the left or the right. By remaining silent we encourage en-courage these extremists on a course that can lead to the destruction de-struction of America if it is not halted. On Flag Day we are going go-ing to speak out against those who preach and practice violence and hatred," Magleby concluded. |
