Show Burning Permits Now Required, State Forester Says Under the authority granted to him by law, Paul Sjoblom, State Forester, has declared the period per-iod from June 1 to Oct. 31, 19C6 as "Closed Fire Season." During this period it is unlawful unlaw-ful to set any fire on forest, brush, range, grain, hay or stubble stub-ble land without first securing a burning permit and complying with its stipulations! The purposes of the burning permit are to insure that controlled con-trolled fires are set during favorable favor-able weather conditions and to keep fire control agencies informed in-formed as to their locations in order to prevent unnecessary response re-sponse should such a fire be reported re-ported to them. Burning permits are required for fires set on private property and may be obtained from the district forest ranger's office above the First Security Bank or from J. D. Docksteader and John Pritchard, Utah Department of Forestry and Fire Control personnel, person-nel, who 'have their office at 55 North Main, above Berrett Music Company. Mr. Docksteader points out that Utah had the fewest man caused fires in 1965 than at any time during the past ten years, owing ow-ing to the abundance of moisture during the burning season. He adds that some areas are already alrea-dy approaching the total number of fires that were reported for all of last year, and that burning conditions will be more extreme this summer because of the dry late winter and spring. |
