Show Governor's Night to Mark Fifth Anniversary Of Utah Shakespearean Festival at CSU Authentic Morris dancers, madrigal mad-rigal singers and Klizabcthan instrumentalists in-strumentalists will perform in the manner of Shakespeare's day. Tart vendors cry their wares at mince tarts, oranges and h ore-hound ore-hound to refresh the audience prior to the stage dramatization and during intermission. As the trumpet fanfare summons sum-mons playgoers to their seats before be-fore the 12-ton Elizabethan set, the torch-lit processional entry of the Shakespearean company will be made beneath a pine-tree canopy ca-nopy and a backdrop of summer sky and stars. A gala "Governor's Night" will mark the fifth anniversary of the Utah Shakespearean Festival which opens July 11 on the Col-I Col-I lege of Southern Utah campus in Cedar City. Governor and Mrs. Rampton and other state dignitaries will be special guests at the premiere performance of "The Taming of the Shrew" marking the Festival's opening. Following in sequence, the other two plays comprising the season are "Julius Caesar" and "Two Gentlemen of Verona." The three productions will be directed direct-ed by Dr. Charles Metten, Michael Mich-ael Addison and Fred C. Adams, respectively. Performances will continue through July 30 in nightly rotation. Arrangements for a special Festival dinner and reception for Governor and Mrs. Rampton and other guests are under the supervision sup-ervision of the Utah Shakespearean Shakespear-ean Festival Guild, with Gustin O. Gooding, Cedar City, as president. Following tradition of past :seasons, each performance will be preceded by pre-play entertainment enter-tainment beginning at 7:30 p. m. |
