Plans for the overall ' development of Wood Ranch Recreation Park in Cedar Canyon have been prepared under the supervision of the U. S. Forest Service, and have been approved as shown above by the Board of Iron County Com'. missioners. The 40 acre plots offer possibilities of one of the finest' ( recreation parks to be found anywhere. When completed it will pn( j vide facilities for almost any type of recreation, including picnicing for from small family groups to large crowds, an amphitheatre with a seat-ing seat-ing capacity for 600 people, courts for softball, volleyball, horseshoe 1 pitching and swings and teeters. A special feature will be the fish pond, already located on the park. Plans caii for enlarging this by raising the spillway two feet. Picnic tables and stoves are arranged about the park area to provide plenty of room for picnic parties, large or small. Rest room facilities, of course, are provided, and in addition the plans call for a public shelter, and ample parking for as many people as can use the park at one time. An area is also provided for a ski run and tow. The recreation area is ideally situated.' It is .only about a 15 min- ute drive from Cedar City and yet is in the heart of the mountain area, surrounded by beautifully timbered hillsides creating an unusually at-, at-, tractive setting. There can be very little doubt but that it will be used l- by hundreds of people 'throughout the entire summer, and if winter v facilities are developed, It would receive year round use. !J The land for the resort has been acquired by the county, and since there is a definite and urgent need for such a park, there should be no M further delay in starting the development of the area. The county, of course, must take the initiative in the development by providing a wa--ter system, rest room facilities, and do the grading of roads and park- i n CT arsti afta utkloh I. The land was acquired by the county two year ago at a cost of $20,000, which should be an excellent and most significant investment. However, it cannot be termed a good investment until the land is put to use and improvements made that will make the park available for the public. . 1 , |
