Show Livestock Show Association Officers Ready Pavilion Construction Plans Rather concrete steps have been taken in the past two weeks by the Southern Utah Livestock Show Association Associa-tion toward providing permanent quarters for the annual show, which has been recognized as one of the outstanding shows of the entire West. In the past few years the need for permanent facilities for the show has been keenly felt and plans have been in t he making for the erection of a show pavilion. Major delay in getting the project under way has been ,lhe selection of a site for such a pavilion, or "show barn." Now at last, through the process of elimination and detailed studv of the advantng- s of all sites proposed, it teems that this question has been resolved, re-solved, and contracts for the eon. structlon of the barn should be let very soon. The site selected Is one on North Main Street immediately east of the cemetery on city land formerly promised for use as a municipal golf course. Hower, location of the golf course has been moved to the municipal airport, and the land north of the city Is available for other use. Officials of the livestock association asso-ciation will meet with the City i Council at regular meeting Frl-I day at which it Is hoped that' final agreement for the use of, the land for the livestock show can be completed. In that event contracts can be let immediately immediate-ly and at least a portion of the new structure can be ready for the 1957 show on the first week end of September. Included in the proposals for land use are plans for more extensive ex-tensive use cf the area than for livestock show purposes. Plans call for areas for additional exhibit ex-hibit buildings so that the show Iran be expanded to Include exhibits ex-hibits of produce, machinery and other items generally shown at fairs and exhibits In the fall of the year. It Is expected that with these additions it may be possible pos-sible to develop a southern Utah Fair in connection wi;h the an. nual livestock show. Other facilities fa-cilities will be included in the overall plans for the area, including in-cluding plans for the additional recreational facilities. Although the area plan Is being be-ing developed for all of these features, the Livestock Show association as-sociation will concern itself only with the show facilities, leaving the other facilities to be developed devel-oped at the discretion of other organizations, and It Is hoped that a southern Utah fair association asso-ciation can be created to promote pro-mote worthwhile events for the southern section of the state. Under present plans the livestock live-stock barn will be located at the front or Main Street side of the new development area. Plans call for a two-winged pavilion with a front office and auction ring area in the front with the two wl.ign running east from the front am-tlon. It la vnctri that at least a portion of this building build-ing can be completed In time for the show this year, with the balance to be completed later. While the building will have many possibilities for use it will definitely be used for livestock purposes only during the annual livestock show and perhaps during dur-ing a proposed southern Utah fair. A large parking lot off the highway, and streets, will he provided In connection with the program, providing ample park-Ing park-Ing during the livestock show or for any other event that may be staged at the facility. Plans for the structure provide a very attractive and completely enclosed pavilion which will keep all animals exhibited Inside In-side the building. |
