Show INDIAN ORIGIN CSU Symbol Now Thunderbird' Nearly four months of intensive inten-sive campaigning on the campus of College of Southern Utah ended end-ed this week with the selection of a new school emblem. According Accord-ing to Student Council President Larry Hunter, Fillmore, the College Col-lege of Southern Utah will be known as the Thunderbirds. Hunter indicated that the final selection was narrowed to three choices, Iron Men, Falcons and the Thunderbirds. The "Bird" was voted by a wide margin in all campus election. According to committee members mem-bers advocating the Thunder- bird symbol, every Indian tribe has a great many words or symbols sym-bols but the Thunderbirds is one of the few universal ones recognized recog-nized by all tribes. , It means ; sacred bearer of happiness and jis so powerful that the heavens shake when it comes. An Indian symbol was believed appropriate appropri-ate because of the tribes and many traditions of the great j southwest of which College of Southern Utah is a part.
