Show C S U Music Department to Present Outstanding Works of W. A. Mozart Finishing touches have been' made this week to the combined! chorus and orshestra presentation of W. A. Mozart's "Requiem" to , be presented Thursday evening by the College of Southern Utah Music Department and the community. com-munity. The production, one of the outstanding out-standing works ever attempted, will be staged at the C'SU Auditorium Audi-torium Thursday evening, April 20 at S:15 p. in. The combined orchestra and chorus of over 150 people will be under the direction of Prof. Roy L. Halvcrsen, orchestra, and Dr. Blaine Johnson, chorus. Patrons of the music arts throughout the state have been extended an invitation to attend this special musical presentation. The production vvil also be a major effort on the part of the C'SU music department to raise funds for a new organ. Kent Myers, chairman of the fund raising project, Indicated the proposed addition of an organ to the beautiful auditorium would make the facilities unmatched un-matched in the entire area. Nearly one half of the necessary neces-sary $7,5(K) has already been raised through a series of volunteer volun-teer contributions by patrons of the college. However, the com-mitee com-mitee is taking the opiortunity of this musical treat to help stimulate the drive, Myers said. Soloists for the "Requiem" are Bonnie Jean Riddle and Christine Winterrose, sopranos; Mary Sargent Sar-gent and Cynthia Williams, altos; al-tos; David Williams and Dr. Johnson, tenors and Sheldon Weslwich, Chad Thorderson and John Griffin, basses. |
