Show Cedar City Social Swing I Mrs. Joe Atkin and children, are house guests of Dr. and Mrs. Kymal Williams. Mr. Atkin trav-eded trav-eded to Cedar City last Wednes-1 day with his family to attend funeral services for his father.; He returned to his home In Phoe-1 nix, Arl7., Sunday leaving his, family for a three weeks visit. I Week end house guests at the! Reno home of Mr. and Mrs. La-Mar La-Mar Ford were Miss Marlene Benson and Travis Nelson of Cedar Ce-dar City. Miss Benson and Mr. Nelson traveled to the Nevada city at attend the farewell testimonial testi-monial for Duane Ford, who will labor in the Brit'sh "'csion for the LDS church. Mr. Ford will be remembered a a" outstanding outstand-ing athlete while attending CSU. Mr. and Mrs. George Hunter ' are making preparations for the arrival of several of their out-of-town family members. They are expecting Warrant Officer and Mrs. Walter C. Bell (Norine) Thursday for an extended visit. The Bells will bring with them from their China Lake, Calif., home their three children. Following Fol-lowing their visit with Mrs. Bell s parents and family, they will continue on to North Carolina where Mr. Bell will study for two years at Western Electric's Guided Missile Experimental Station. Also expected are Dr. and Mrs. L. G. Merrill of Ogden. Little Kathy and Susan Merrill, who have spent the past week with their grandparents will also al-so be happy to greet their parents. par-ents. The Merrill family will remain re-main over the week end before returning to their Northern Utah home. Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Sjoblom and family left Cedar City on Thursday of last week for Fort Collins, Colo., where Mr. Sjoblom will attend an Extension Summer School at Colorado A and M. They will return to Cedar City following the three week course. Passing through Cedar City visiting with friends on Tuesday, Wednesday and part of Thursday Thurs-day were Mr. and Mrs. Donald K. Nelson and sons of LeGrande Oregon. Mr. Nelson, former librarian li-brarian at CSU, has been studying study-ing at the University of California Califor-nia at Berkley for the past two years. After finishing requirements require-ments towards his Ph. D., he and his family are returning to LeGrande, Le-Grande, Oregon, where he Is Librarian Li-brarian on the staff of Eastern Oregon College of Education. While In Cedar City they were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. L. K. Carlson. i The recent meeting of the En I Avante Literary club was held at the home of Mrs. C. L. Chatter-ley. Chatter-ley. Guests for the evening were Mrs. Howard Wood and Mrs. El-t El-t wood Corry. Twelve members and the guests were Introduced to Dr. Reed W. Farnsworth by I his wife, who was program chair- man. Dr. Farnsworth reviewed the book 'The Kingdom of the Saints" by Ray B. West, Jr., Mr. West's true life story dealing with religion and the part it has played In his life, made for a very Interesting evening. Fol-j lowing the review, light refreshments refresh-ments were served by the hOS-teSS hOS-teSS Mr. and Mrs. Henry P. Dotson and daughters Dianna and Gloria returned on the week end from a tinee week trip which took them to Washington, D. C, to visit with Dr. and Mrs. G. F. Gardineer, and son David. Mrs. Gardineer is the former Ula Mae Dotson. Dr. and Mrs. Gardineer took the Dotsons on personally conducted tours of New York City, where they visited all of the points of interest, Baltimore, Maryland and Mt. Vernon, Virginia. Vir-ginia. They report having enjoyed en-joyed their auto trip and the cities visited enroute. Club members of Mrs. Jack Miller were entertained at her I home on Wednesday of last week. Following light refreshments, refresh-ments, pinochle was played with Mrs. Ross Berry and Mrs. Harry Knell winning prizes. Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Ence and children visited In Salt Lake City during the later part of last week. Upon their return to Cedar Ce-dar City little Teressa joined her aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Corry Parry for a month's stay at their home In Las Vegas. Nev. Sewing and visiting were the pass times of the evening on Thursday as Mrs. Kay Wilkes entertained en-tertained the members of her club. Special guests for the evening even-ing were Mrs. Jens Jensen and Mrs. Don Burt Refreshments were served by tne hostess. Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Chatterley, Mrs. Gwen Sherratt and Mrs. Ila Sherratt traveled to Logan last week end to attend the impressive impres-sive Inaugural ceremonies connected con-nected with Girls' State. The gala affair was held at the Utah State University Union Building. Representing Rep-resenting Cedar City were Phyl Us Chatterley, Gaylynn Sherratt and Ann Sherratt. Following this final function of Girls' State the Cedarites traveled to Salt Lake City where they witnessed the! inspiring MIA Dance Festival held at the University of Utah stadium. Enroute to their new home In Maryland are Lt. and Mrs. Robert Ro-bert Petersen and children. They have spent the past few weeks visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wilford Webster. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Osborne are In Cedar City for the summer. Mr. Osborne graduated from USU and will teach this fall at Monticello, Utah. Recently returned from a week's vacation trip through Southern Arizona and Mexico is the Elihu Whatcott family. They found the weather pleasant and the country traveled very beautiful. beau-tiful. In Tuscon, Ariz., they were guests of Mrs. Whatcott's sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Sher-rel Sher-rel Riddle. Visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Max Walker is Mrs. Walker's sister, Patty Rock and two daughters of Brigham City. Following a week's stay Mrs. Rock and children will return to their home. |
