Show CSU Staff Member Contributes Thoughts In Alumni Magazine The Winter edition of the "Peabody Reflector," magazine of the alumni of the George Pea-body Pea-body School for Teachers, Nashville, Nash-ville, Tenn. contained an article written by Prof. McRay Cloward, staff members at College of Southern Utah. "My Discovery of the South" tells of the author's many preconceived pre-conceived notions of America's Dixie as "a rather unique region filled with exciting places and people a story-book place steeped with a colorful history country filled with great white mansions, friendly and talkative people, the best of social classes, class structure, strong religious beliefs and with strong family solidarity." He also related his ideas of the south as "a place of great poverty, lack of civic pride and great prejudice against those having black skins." Prof. Cloward concluded in the magazine article that during his residence as a graduate student in Nashville he had received confirmation of many of these ideas and had seen many of the notions replaced with a truer representation. |
