Show John T. Rasmussen Dies at 91, Services Conducted John Thomas Rasmussen, 91, prominent resident of Parowan and active civic and beautifica-tion beautifica-tion worker of the community, died at his home here late Monday Mon-day afternoon of causes incident to his age. He had been in poor health for several months. "John T." as he was known best by resident of the community, communi-ty, was born in Parowan Oct. 12, 1869, a son of Neils and Mary Ann Morris Rasmussen. He became be-came engaged in the blacksmith-ing blacksmith-ing trade as a young man and worked at this trade all of his life. He was married to Anna Mor-tensen Mor-tensen in Parowan on Nov. 25, 1891 and they celebrated their golden wedding in 1941. They resided here until 1901 when Mr. Rasmussen was called with other residents of Parowan, to go to the Bighorn Basin in Wyoming as colonizers, and Mrs. Rasmussen joined him there the following year. Mr. Rasmussen went as the blacksmith for the colonizing group. They returned to Parowan in 1913 and this has been the family home since then. In addition to his occupation as a blacksmith Mr. Rasmussen was also active in the affairs of Parowan City, serving on the city council for several years and later as a member of the city beautiflcation committee, during which time he helped in the planning and planting of trees on the city streets. His home reflected re-flected hia work along this line and he utilized many varieties of shrubs which grew in Parowan Canyon in his home planting program. His wife preceded him in death and he is survived by the following follow-ing children: Clayton and Morris Rasmussen and Mrs. R. L. (Butel-la (Butel-la Halterman, Parowan; Frani Rasmussen and Mrs. GHrt;e (Uolda) Brunner, Los Angeles; Mondell Rasmussen, Cedar City and Otto Rasmussen, Burley, Idaho. Also surviving are 20 grandchildren, IS great-grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Iva Snell of Provo. Funerai services are being held today. Thursday, at 2 p. m. in the Parowan First -Second Ward chapel under the direction of Bishop Bruce Matheson. Friends may call today at the family home in Parowan from 11 a. m. until time of the services. |
