Show Rams Take Measure 01 Redmen In Second Encounter John Wood's Parowan . Rams made It two In a row over the Cedar Redmen In a basketball game played at the College of Southern Utah fieldhouse in Cedar Ce-dar City Saturday evening. Rolling to a lead in the early minutes of the game the Rams went on to an easy victory 61 to 49. Paced by Ronald Smith, who poured in 24 points for Parowan, the Rams made it a walkaway with Coach Wood calling off his first string early in the fourth quarter of play. In addition to his shooting, which developed to a simple matter of throwing the ball in the air for Smith, he also shared top honors on his team for rebounds, taking off seven. Kenneth Bettridge also pulled off seven rebounds as the Rams unofficially gathered in a total of 34 compared to 26 for the Red-men. Red-men. Leading rebounder on the floor, however, was Craig Whitti-kiend Whitti-kiend of the Redmen, with eight. Rams never trailed in game. Smith was first to score off a fast break, Bettridge added two from the foul line and Smith tanked a 10 ft. Jump shot to put Parowan into 6 to 0 lead. Doug Haycock retaliated for 'he Rtd men, hitting three from outside to keep the Redmen in the game, trailing by only four at the end of the first quarter, 17 to 13. Both teams were in a zone defense de-fense which is proving to be the downfall of the Rednvn. Coach Bruce Decker, however, put up a four man zone with one man free to watch Kenyon Clark, the Ram's leading scorer. Early in the first period of play Karl Braithwaite, second leading scorer for. the Redmen was taken tak-en out with a leg injury. Making Mak-ing a steal from Clark he went in for a cripple and Clark, attempting attempt-ing to stop the basket from behind be-hind hit Braithwaite and he landed against the bench behind the basket. The injury will put him out of action for several weeks. Smith got hot In the second period of play and paced the Rams to a substantial lead of 10 points with the period just half over. Then with Smith, Bettridge Bet-tridge and Lowder hitting them, increased the lead to 17 points at halftime, 35 to 18. Third peroid was Smith's best tntr cvciiinK as he tanked 12 of the Rams' 18 counters in the eight minute period and that was the difference in the two clubs. Lory Mlsel came off the Redman Red-man bench at the intermission and hit four field goals and one foul pitch in the period to keep the Redmen hopes alive. Early tn the fourth period Wood called off his first string and emptied the bench, but the trailing Redmen, behind and flustered, could not muster a drive to overtake the hot-shooting Rams.
