Show Spirit of Christmas Christmas time was a happier time of the year for warty 50 different families in Iron County, because of the contributions made by various organizations in the True spirit of Yultide season, that of giving." BTOE of Cedar City annually carries out a worthwhile worth-while project in the distribution of food baskets to families fam-ilies throughout the county each Christmas season. This effort, plus the efforts of the Natunal Guard in this distribution dis-tribution of toys to boys and girls of the area in an an-nual an-nual "Sub for Santa Program," and a clothing project of the Klwanis Club, certainly made it a happier season lor families in the area. In carrying out these three worthwhile programs nearly $200 is expended and that is not including the extensive ex-tensive discounts on items that are accorded the organizations organiza-tions to make the program even more successful. Actual cash Value of the three programs would range closer to 33300. Food baskets distributed by the Elks Lodge were taken to over 50 families and an expenditure of over $1000. Santa Claus was employed on Christmas Eve to distribute these baskets. . Over $600 of toys were distributed this season to over 30 families and nearly 100 boys and girls by the National Guard. This program was made successful this season, at least in part, for the fine contributions to this program by North East Furniture and II. M. Endsley's Western Auto Store. , . Twelve families received clothing assistance for their ehildren in a program sponsored by the Kiwanis Club. Over 25 children received needed clothing ranging from pajamas to shoes and coats this season. This program was also aided by the fine contribution and participation of Steven's Company. In the true spirit of charity these programs, although not much publicized, are carried out and it is through such programs as these that the true meaning of the Christmas Christ-mas season is continued in the fast society of commercialisation commerciali-sation and competition. Our hats are off to these organizations and the programs pro-grams they present as an aid to the community. |
