Show Fish and Game Officers Note New Law Officers of the State Fish and game Commission in the regional office located In Cedar City, indicated in-dicated this week that a number of questions have arisen relative to a new law requiring a certificate certi-ficate of competency for licensed applicants under 21 years of age. The new hunting license law will go Into effect on April .1. 1960, the beginning of the next licensing season tn Utah. Several of the questions regarding re-garding the law can be answered answer-ed by reading this reproduction of the law as follows: CHAPTER 33 (Passed March 12. 1959 4 Effect Mot 12, 1959) LICENSE CERTIFICATE OF COMPETENCY An Act Providing tor a Certificate Certifi-cate of Competency. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Utah: Section 1. Hunting License Requirements for Those Under 21 Certificate of Competency. On and after April 1, 1960, no hunting hunt-ing license shall be issued to any person under the age of 21 un less he presents to the depart-Tnent depart-Tnent of fLh and game, or one of Its authorized license agents, either (1) satisfactory proof that he has held a resident hunting license Issued by the department of fish and game; or (2) a certificate cer-tificate of competency as provld-d provld-d by Section 2; or, (31 satisfactory satisfac-tory proof that he has successfully success-fully passed a national rifle association as-sociation or reserve officer's training train-ing course, that he is a service I man or veteran who has successfully success-fully completed basic training, or he has successfully completed other training equivalent to that provided in section 2 of this act for a certificate of competency. On and after April 1, 1900 all persons per-sons 16 years of age and under, upon applying for any hunting license in this state, must present pre-sent a certificate of competency. Section 2. Instructor's Certificate Certifi-cate Department to Give Course in Fire Arm Handling Certificate. The department of fish and game shill provide a course of instruction in the safe handling of firearms for individuals individ-uals interested in obtaining an Instructor's certificate in the safe handling of firearms. Certified Instructors will, on a voluntary 'basis and with the cooperation of the fish and game department depart-ment and Utah wildlife federation, federa-tion, give Instruction in the course of safe firearm handling ' established by the department of fish and game to be eligible persons per-sons who, upon the successful completion of said course, shall be issued a certificate of competency compe-tency In firearms handling. Section 3. Fee. The state fish game commission shall have the power to establish a fee not to exceed $1.00 to be assessed the Individual obtaining instruction in the safe handling- of firearms. Section 4. Violation Mlsde-I meanor. An agent who Illegally Issues a license or a person who receives a license In violation of Section 1 of this act shall be guilty of a misdemeanor. empt.
