Show Surfacing of Parowan City Streets Finished With Parowan City and the Utah State Department of Highways High-ways cooperating, Parowan City now has four additional miles of hard-surfaced streets, to take the place of the hole-filled thoroughfares thorough-fares that have existed for the past several years. According to Charles F. Burton, city councilman, and chairman of the streets and sidewalks com-mirtee, com-mirtee, a total of slightly more than four miles of streets were given an oil much surface under the program which was financed by an accumulation held by the city from the city's share of the license plate funds. These streets, added to those who were given a hard surface several years ago in a similar program, gives the residents of Parowan oiled streets right out to the edge of the city, although there are some heavily traveled streets on the outskirts of the city on the east and south that are still in need of oiling. One phase of the work is yet to be done, a very important one too, according to Mr. Burton. This is the sealing of the newly sur faced streets and some patching on other streets. Burton states that under the program, the newly surfaced streets will be watched and any holes which appear ap-pear in the next several weeks, will be repaired, and then the seal coat of oil and chips will be laid over the surface of the mulch. This will protect them from storm damage in the future and add another half an inch of thickness to the surface. Chips were crushed for this part of the program when the gravel was crushed for the surfacing, sur-facing, and the seal coat will also be laid through the cooperation of the State highway department. |
