Show I Travel To Zion Park Exceeds 1963 Year Superintendent Frank R. Ober-hansley Ober-hansley reports that on June 7 travel to Zion National Park in 1964 exceeded that of 1963 for the first time. As of that date, 147,848 visits to the park had been recorder, re-corder, surpassing that of the previous year by 55 visits. Of real significance is the fact that travel to the park has climbed climb-ed at an accelerated rate after taking a sharp dip during the stormy Easter vacation period. For example, travel in May exceeded ex-ceeded that of May, 1963, by 6,000 visits with over 60,000 people peo-ple passing through the Park entrance en-trance stations. At the present rate of increase it Is reasonable to anticipate that approximately three-quarters of a million people will have viewed view-ed the wonders of Zion Canyon by the end of the travel season. Even more impressive, Mr. Ober-hansley Ober-hansley says, is the marked increase in-crease in campground use. Although Zion is attractive for camping most of the year, sprhig is perhaps the most Inviting. The weather is dependably pleasant with temperatures ranging in the 608 and 70"s by day and the 40's and 50's at night. Of lite over 18,000 people who have camped in Zion this year, more than two-thirds of those have used the campgrounds in May. With the closing of schools for summer, all of the figures will rise sharply. |
