Show I Winners in Railroad Scholarship Program I Encouraged to Continue in Agriculture Field Young agriculturists of Utahi have been recipients of $62,471 through Union Pacific Railroad's Carf Raymond Gray scholarships since the program was created, officials reported today. Joe W. Jarvls, supervisor of livestock and agriculture for the railroad, noted that system-wide expenditures for the program now total nearly half a million dollars. The company's records list 435 Utah winners among members of 4-H clubs and 358 winners among students of vocational agriculture. Established in 1921 to recog nize worthy efforts of farm youth and to encourage then to pare for their future In the field of agriculture, the scholarships have been granted to a total of 7,355 young men and women. Jarvls said many recipients I have reported the award provided provid-ed the necessary encouragement for them to enter college. The scholarships are granted I to one vocational agriculture stu. dent and one 4 H club member In each county served by Union! Pacific. Eleven states and 190 i counties are Involved. |
