Show ParoYjan Council Studies Proposed Budget. Plans July 4 Celebration At a special meeting of the Parowan City Council held Monday Mon-day evening the council spent almost the entire time working on a proposed budget of expenditures expen-ditures for the coming final year which begins July 1 and runs to June 30, 1964, it is announced an-nounced by Mayor Osmer Nielsen. Niel-sen. The budget preparation reach- ed the point where the city offi cials will call for a public hearing hear-ing on the said budget, to be held at the city office on Mon- day night, June 24. Following the hearing the budget will be passed, with any revision that may be found necessary following follow-ing the hearing. Mayor Nielsen also stated that the city has tentatively agreed to lease the Burton's Garage building for use as an equipment equip-ment housing and materials storing place, as well as office space If needed. The lease agreement, agree-ment, when completed will be on a yearly basis, Mayor Nielsen stated. We understand that Ted Burton Bur-ton has purchased the home of Mr. and Mrs. Vern C. Mortensen on South Main Street on which he is preparing to constri ct a new, modern service station, to handle Phillips 66 products. The Mortensens have purchased the home belonging to Warren Pendleton Pen-dleton on 100 North and 400 West and have already moved into It Also on Monday night the city tentatively named a committee commit-tee to arrange for the annual celebration of July 4 in Parowan, with Councilman Bernarr Stubbs to act as coordinator between the council and the committee. We understand that the Lions Club has been named to arrange a parade, the American Legion and Auxiliary to prepare for a patriotic meeting and the Trl-H Club to be In charge of a program pro-gram of sports for the day. The Red Hill Wranglers, local horsemen's horse-men's organization is already making preparations for their annual Race Meet and Amateur Rodeo, which will be held in the afternoon at the city race track and rodeo grounds. The wrangler's show will Include In-clude a program of five horse races, with rodeo events and other oth-er entertainment features between be-tween each race. The program will get under way at 2 p. m. and the rodeo events are open to all contestants on an amateur ama-teur basis. |
