Officer Kenneth Perkins is shewn with safe at the Lockhart Co. which was "peeled" and $1020 in cash taken Saturday night. $1020 Cash Taken In Burglary Saturday Night Charges of second degree burglary bur-glary and illegal possession of narcotics were filed against Leno Martinez, 3-1, Monday when he was arraigned before Justice of the Peace, Haldow E. Christen-sen. Christen-sen. Judge Christensen set bail at $5,000 on each count and indicated in-dicated that a preliminary hearing hear-ing would be set sometime in August. Martinez, who is believed to have committed a number of burglaries in the southern Utah . area, was picked up Sunday afternoon af-ternoon by Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Wm. Burch on Interstate 15, 20 miles south of Cedar City. The accused was traveling north and it is believed hat he had been In the Las Vegas, Nev. area. He Is suspected by law enforcement en-forcement official of commitUng a burglary of the Lockhart Co. What was believed to be narcotics was sent into the state for analylsis, according to the iron County sheriffs office. Filf-more. The Lot'khart Company was broken into sometime late Saturday Sat-urday evening. The burglary was discovered shortly after 11 p. m. when Clark Dennett, an employee employ-ee noted that the drapes had boon pulled and the light inside- the offices were on. When he investigated he discovered that the safe had been broki-n into and that chairs had been stacked stack-ed between the safe and the front door to obscure the view from that angle. In addition to the safe, a filinp cabinet had been jimmied and records taken out and apparently appar-ently screened. Access was obtained by jimmying jim-mying a back door and two other oth-er interior doors had also been forced open, althoug one was. not locked. |
