Show Eighth Ward Explorers Named One Of 30 Posts Throughout LDS Church The Eighth Ward Explorer Post 2330 of Cedar City last week received recognition as one of the top 30 posts of the Chun, h of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. As such, the boys were asked to demonstrate, explain and furnish fur-nish literature on their money-making money-making projects and super activities acti-vities at the church-wide Explor-ado Explor-ado in Salt Lake City which was held in connection with the annual an-nual MIA June Conference. Participating were: Post Advisor Ad-visor Laurence C. Cooper, his two sons, David and Howard, Ray Lunt and Larry Bulloch. Ray is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Paul Lunt and Larry the son of Mr. and Mrs. MacRay Bulloch. For the past two years the post has been building kayaks and taking Glen Canyon River runs. More recently they have worked with a factory in California Califor-nia to produce the boasts because be-cause of many technical problems prob-lems involved. At present, the Post has agency rights for the distribution of the finest line of kayaks ia Aineikaii, ranging from 18' super double, which can be sailed or paddled, to a minimum-size stunting, white-water model. The funds from the sale of the kayaks go intc purchasing additional addi-tional equipment for the Explorer Explor-er Post and into financing their super activities. The next kayak excursion for the post will start July 8. With their advisor, the boys plan to paddle the Lake Powell to A tec Canyon course where they will hike to the Rainbow Bridge and will explore the numerous beautiful side canyons opening into the lake. Funds which have gone Into the development of this rapidly expanding project came from two other money-raising projects: pro-jects: the collection and sale of newspaper and the sale of sawdust saw-dust Special, colorful kayaking shirts, seen in the accompanying picture, were made by the boy's mothers, of white and orange parachute nylon. These shirts were worn as part of the exhibit in Salt Lake City, and with the colorful kayaks attracted a great deal of attention. |
