Show CSU to Celebrate Shakespeare's Birthday Devotees of William Shakespeare Shakes-peare in the Cedar City area will join in a mass celebration of the 400th date of his birth Thursday, April 23 at 8 p. m. in the College Col-lege of Southern Utah auditorium. auditor-ium. The commemorative event wil feature a giant five and one-half one-half foot birthday cake decorated in shades of yellow and green. The four layers, representative of the four centuries which have passed since the birth of the immortal im-mortal playwright, will be surmounted sur-mounted by a bust in his likeness. like-ness. The program will be composed of entertainment typical of the Elizabethan period, including scenes from Shakespearean Festival Fes-tival plays, madrigal singing and old English dancing. Information Informa-tion on the third annual Shakespearean Shakes-pearean Festival to be presented at CSU July 9 through 25 will be outlined by Fred C. Adams, Festival Fes-tival director. The celebration will be under the direction of CSU Drama Club members who will wear Elizabethan costumes throughout through-out the day Thursday. Displays of Shakespearean costumes and sets will be featured in the CSU auditorium aud-itorium for the event. Special guests at the activity will be members of the Iron County Chapter of the Utah State Historical Society who will meet at 7 p. m. in Science 102 on the CSU campus to hear a talk by Mrs. Juanita Brooks of St. George. The public is invited to attend both meetings. Following the Shakespearean program, the special cake will be cut and refreshments will be served in the CSU Library Lounge. |
