Improvement Project Moves Ahead A concentrated Landscape Improvement Im-provement program for Iron County got off to a flying start this past week at a public meeting meet-ing called by the Cedar City Coordinating Council. Under the direction of the Council's Beautification Committee, Commit-tee, over 200 persons turned out to hear Dr. Arvll Stark, Landscape Land-scape Improvement specialist from the Utah State University Extension Service, deliver an Illustrated Il-lustrated lecture pointing out the need throughout the entire state. Visual Need Emphasised Dr. Stark showed slides of dilapidated di-lapidated barns, yards overrun by weeds and trash, and other conditions that prevail throughout through-out the length and breadth of the state of Utah. In cooperation with a state wide program, to "Make Utah More Beautiful in 1964," Iron County has organized and has pledged full cooperation, Mrs. Giles Bolander, Chairman of the Cedar City Beautification chairman, chair-man, stated. Othtr Efforts Succeed Dr. Stark in addition to pointing point-ing out the needs for improvements improve-ments also showed a series of slides showing what some communities com-munities have done about it. Mrs. Bolander, in adresslng the group explained that Cedar City has been divided into wards for the Landscape Improvement project pro-ject wh'.-h is rcheduled for kick off on May 1. Ward chairmen have been appointed and they in turn will appoint block captains to follow through. Mrs. Bolander listed the ward chairmen as follows: Adrian Baldwin, first: Gene Bulloch, second; se-cond; Erwln Walker, third; Del-las Del-las Imlay, fourth; Ruby Webster, fifth; Truman Rollins, sixth; Mitchell Mit-chell Lunt, seventh; Albert Al-bertson, Al-bertson, eighth; Ward Spendlove, tenth and Kay Benson and Franklin Ben, Indian Branch; Mr. and Mrs. Gustin Gooding, Air Port Road; Mike Petty, Teen Council; Stanley Sorenson, College Col-lege of Southern Utah and Howard Ho-ward Thorley, Retail Merchants. All those working with the project pro-ject were In attendance this morning, Thursday, at an organizational organi-zational meeting held from 7 to 8 a. m. at the Cedar City Chamber Cham-ber of Commerce office. |
