Show IN BASEBALL WAR Redmen Forced Into Must Win Situation After dropping a 1 to 0 game to the Kanab Cowboys this past week the Cedar City Kedmen find themselves in a position of having hav-ing to win their remaining games to stay in the running for the Region Ten baseball crown. Even if they continue to win it will require that either Hurri-can Hurri-can or Dixie must also defeat Kanab Ka-nab for the Redmen to get back into the race. With only two weeks of league action remaining here is how the remaining games stack up. This week's games: Cedar at Enterprise Hurricane at pa rowan Dixie at Kanab Next week's games: Dixie at Cedar Kanab at Huriicane Parowati at Enu-rpri.se The Cedar High Redmen will meet the Enterprise Wohes Friday Fri-day afternoon at 2:30 p. m. in St. George. The Enterprise field is not usable this year, it is understood under-stood and they have requested that the game be moved to St. George. It is expected that Coach Richard Rich-ard Hobbs will call on Fred Esp-lin Esp-lin for the mound duty. Esplin at this date is the only pitcher of record on the Redmen squad and like the team he has a record rec-ord of two wins and one loss. In the three games he has pitched 17 innings, collected 27 strikeouts, strike-outs, allowed six hits and four runs and has given up five walks and two earned runs. Martin Skougard has one inning to his credit and Dave Jensen has hurled hurl-ed for one inning. Offensively Dave Myers, who has five official trips to the plate, is the leading hitter with three hits tor a .OIK) average. Wes Roberts Rob-erts has proven to be the power hitter on the club. In 11 trips he has collected five hits, including in-cluding two doubles, a triple and a home run. His average is .455. Roberts also leads the team in runs batted in with six to his credit, and lie has scored four ru ns. John Black is hitting at a j.HX) clip, is second in RBI's with five and has scored three runs. Leading scorer is Mike Caxr with eight tallies to his crettit. Other top hitter include Lee Hunter with a .333 average, four RBI's and six runs; David Jen sen, .3(H), two RBI's at.d three runs; Bruce Holmes, .250 average, aver-age, and two RBI's and two runs, and Merrill Dal ley, .222 and two runs. Kim Leigh, who has been at the plate only twice this season has one for two for a .500 average aver-age and two RBI's. |
