Show little League Foundation Activities Planned for Saturday in Cedar City Little League Foundation and the 20th anniversary of Little League is beinj observed throughout the nation this week in keeping with a proclamation by the President of the United States approved by an act of Congress. Purpose of the Foundation "Week is to better acquaint people peo-ple of the actual organization nd operation of Little League in which nearly a million boys are participating through more than 5000 major leagues with minor league affiliates, and to jain understanding and support of the program. In addition funds raised through contributions will be added to a permanent Little League fund, the revenue from which, will keep the program on .a sound financial basis The Cedar City League will cli-nax Foundation week with a special program prior to the reg. ularly scheduled league game on the Elks Park Saturday afternoon. after-noon. Regular game time is 5:30, and Saturday the program, which will be short, will be held promptly at the time and a game between Lions and Milne teams will follow. , The program will feature a flag raising by the Elks Lodge, remarks by Mayor Arnold Anderson, Ander-son, and a special talk by El-loyd El-loyd Marchant, who has been active in the program since its inception In Cedar City. Each boy who participates In LI tie League Is bound by the following fol-lowing pledge: I trust in God. I love my country and will respect re-spect its laws. I will play fair and strive to win. But win or lose I will always do my best. The credo of the Lltle T.ague Volunteer who works with the boys is as follows: I WILL Safeguard Little League as a national asset and help endow it with the highest possible standards. Respect the boy as an individual. individ-ual. Try to understand his capabilities, capa-bilities, limitations and problems prob-lems of growing up. Be an exemplar In the growing grow-ing movement of Little League, ready to Improve the estate of our youngsters whenever possible, possi-ble, and to find honest enjoyment enjoy-ment In the creative service and teaching the program affords. Recognize obligations in training train-ing boys and teaching lessons of fair play, discipline and team work. Keep myself Informed In basic understanding and knowledge of the objectives of the program. Cooperate In scrupulous observance ob-servance of the rules and regulations reg-ulations which are the strength of Little League. . Encourage volunteer support of parents, educators and all agencies devoted to the welfare of youth. Protect the Little League franchise fran-chise against exploitation and use of the Little League players for purposes of commercialization commercializa-tion or personal profit |
