Show Cedar Hi Redmen Playing in State B Tourney The Cedar City High School basketball team entered the State Class B tournament Wednesday as a third place entry from the region but don't let that fool you. The Redmen Just may be the team to carry the banner of the Region with a fine winning streak in their favor as they en. tered action. The Redmen, who suffered two losses In league play, both In the first half, have since won seven straight games including a victory over the Dixie Flyers who entered the state clas-1 sic as the first place team from ! the Region. I With that first place honor, I however, the Flyers got a definite break in the bracketing as they j deserved. The Redmen met an old neml-1 sis Wednesday at 1 p. m. in the ' opening round of play. It was South Rich, a team that used the zone press effectively against the Redmen In two previous tournaments tourna-ments when they met similarly In the opening round of play. Again this year the Redmen had a height edge on South Rich j and expected to run into the' same type of attack. Coach Richard Hobbs hoped to use the six foot seven inch height of Fred Esplin to good advantage aganist South Rich and in so doing do-ing overcome the Jinks that the northern opponent has had on the Redmen. Results of that game were not available at press time. The tournament favorite, defending de-fending champion South Sevier with Lynn Parsons, the state's leading scorer through the regulation regu-lation season is in the same bracket with Cedar could be the Redmen opponents on the third night of the tournament. The Redmen are predominately squad made up of Juniors ana regardless of the outcome in tnir. year's classic they should be a strong contender rct year. The 11-maii tqiud includes the following: Fred Esplin, 6-7; Sandy Webster, Web-ster, 6; John Black, 6. Seven of the Redmen are Juniors. Jun-iors. They Include Scott Nelson at 6-4; Bruce Holmes, 6; David Jensen, 5-11; David Myers, 5-9; Glade McArthur. 6-2; Brad Isom, 5 8 and Russell Shirts, 5-11. One spohomore completes the 11-man team.
